Dukane Seacom’s Second Generation ELT-DT Achieves COSPAS-SARSAT TAC Approval

Dukane Seacom (a HEICO Company, NYSE: HEI, HEI.A), a leading provider of emergency locator technology for the aviation industry, proudly announces that it has received COSPAS-SARSAT Type Approval Certificate (TAC) for the industry’s first Distress Tracking Second Generation Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT-DT). This significant achievement sets a critical milestone in enhancing the safety and reliability of aviation distress alerting systems worldwide.  Dukane’s ELT-DT is an integral element of the Global Aeronautical Distress and Safety System (GADSS) being incorporated into commercial and business aviation aircraft in accordance with ICAO’s January 2025 implementation mandate.

Dukane’s Second Generation ELT is designed to utilize spread-spectrum technology which provides faster and more accurate location data during emergencies. It integrates cutting-edge 406 MHz distress signal technology, enhanced MEOSAR compatibility, and a robust 121.5 MHz homing signal to ensure swift and precise location identification. Additionally, the use of spread-spectrum avoids overcrowding of critical emergency communications that could exist with first generation fixed frequency ELTs and other personal and maritime beacons.  This next-generation device significantly improves search and rescue response times, bolstering aircraft safety.  Dukane’s ELT-DT can be triggered in-flight when an aircraft is in distress to ensure that the aircraft’s location can be tracked and localized so that search and rescue times are minimized.

Incorporating the latest generation of advanced satellite communications capabilities, the Second Generation ELT-DT offers unparalleled reliability and global coverage, making it one of the most advanced ELTs in the industry. Its innovative design also features long-lasting battery life, reduced size and weight.

“We are thrilled to have achieved COSPAS-SARSAT approval, as this underscores our commitment to advancing aviation safety through the development of state-of-the-art emergency technology,” said Jeff Densmore, Director of Engineering. “This milestone represents years of engineering innovation and testing, and we are confident that the Second Generation ELT-DT will set a new standard for performance and reliability in emergency locator transmitters.”

Dukane Seacom’s Second Generation ELT-DT is now available for integration into a wide range of aviation platforms, further strengthening the company’s position as a leader in emergency locator technology.
